The
new CELL-DYN SMS is the first stand alone
instrument to automate all aspects of blood film
preparation including a truly flexible staining
system. "Stain Only" and "STAT"
modes are available to maximize the versatility
of the SMS. The Operator simply loads patient
sample tubes and walks away. The SMS incorporates
proven wedge smear technology optimized to consistently
produce high quality blood films.
The
CELL-DYN SMS reduces workload pressure
by automating time consuming slide preparation.
The unique 50 position sample loader accommodates
common tube types and will mix sample tubes,
read bar codes and aspirate up to 120 samples
per hour. For Pediatric and Geriatric samples,
the SMS requires only 30 µL in the Open
sampling mode. To ensure positive sample identification,
patient demographics are printed directly on
the slide.
Exposure
to biohazardous material is a concern to all
laboratory professionals. The closed sampling
feature of the SMS improves operator safety
by eliminating exposure to aerosols when opening
sample tubes. Once the blood film is made, it
is automatically placed into a staining rack,
transferred to the flexible staining stations
and stained according to the lab's protocol.
The
CELL-DYN SMS has been designed to provide
the Operator with maximum flexibility. The open
staining system allows the laboratory to easily
automate their current staining protocol on
the SMS, eliminating the need to re-train laboratory
staff. The SMS incorporates 5 staining stations,
a separate water rinse station and a temperature
controlled drying oven. Up to 10 different staining
protocols can be stored.
The
CELL-DYN SMS utilized proven wedge smear
technology combined with a proprietary optimization
of the smearing parameters (blood volume, smearing
speed, smearer angle and pressure) to produce
consistent high quality blood films every time.
Quality smears are produced even for sample
with Hematocrit values ranging from 15%-65%.
